I was a chaperone with my son for his sixth through seventh grade class. We ended up staying one night, it was only about a 30 minute drive from the house but it really felt a world of a difference. We were served breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I definitely enjoyed the activities, there was not a lot of mosquitoes and even with the rainy weather we still were able to get everything off the itinerary. Activities we did were rock climbing, kayaking, zip lining and also team building activities which helped us as chaperones with kids bonding. We had a total of 48 kids that were split up with teachers and parents, our group had five kids and by the end of the trip every kid became better acquaintance. The cabins had AC which helped make it a more comfortable one night stay. If I were to be asked to chaperone for next years classes, I’d gladly join the fun again.

Stayed at Wonderland Camp for a youth retreat in January. All the facilities were clean and plenty to do (even in the cold). The kids played football, basketball, soccer on the fields. The facility has a rock climbing wall, which everyone loved. The chapel can sit a large group (I'd say about 500) and their a/v system is great. The quarters for chaperones/leaders are better than I expected. The beds are comfy and they provide linens and towels (kids need to bring bedding/towels). The cabin we stayed in had a mini fridge and a microwave. The Dining Hall food is mediocre (think grade school cafeteria food) but the personnel are very friendly and helpful. If you stay here, I'd recommend bringing bottled water, the water there is well-water. As someone who has planned retreats in the past, this facility is GREAT - it has breakout rooms, activities to keep kids busy, plenty of outdoor space and comfortable accomodations.

Went here from 1960 at the age of 8, until I aged out at 14. , Back then they had mothers and children camp it was 9 or 10 days long! , this was the best thing for us urban children to experience. Being away from the city of Chicago for almost 2 weeks. The Christian counselors were the best, I remember a woman named Miss Bee who ran the camp at that time she was so kind and loving. Oh but my favorite time breakfast lunch and dinner we used to sing Be Present at Our Tab Lord, then when evening came we got milk & graham crackers snack before bed time. once I became an adult and had children of my own they still offered Mother childrens camp that was Fit 64 hours 10 hours was 12 1973 so my eldest children got to experience this beautiful Wonderland. Oh how I wish they still had that type of camp so my grand children could experience the Wonders of Camp Wonderland. Thank you Salvation Army.

I wasn’t going to leave a review because my daughter said it was the best time of her life (she attended the Muscular dystrophy camp June 2024) BUT after multiple attempts to reach management whom never returned my calls, I only find it fair to share for the next persons because obviously they don’t care enough to address the issue. My daughter stayed in Hicokry cabin. We took her to urgent care due to what I thought was chicken pox after she got home. Nope, it was confirmed bed bug bites and multiple other girls also ended up with the same reactions, another girl in the ER. This wasn’t just a few bites, she had 55 on one arm. So not only am I disappointed about this but might as well note how badly the cabin smelled like urine. It wasn’t clean at all, but again I wasn’t going to bother reviewing them until they really proved how much they don’t care at all to address the issue. So since management sucks I will leave this review hopefully helping the next peeps.

Some of the best years of my life were spent at this camp. I was fortunate to work seven summers there from 1977 to '84 (missed '80). Many lives came to know Christ as we served kids and older adults from inner city Chicago. My favorite times were as the Waterfront Director down on the lake (before the pool existed), although I loved being a cabin counselor as well. I even met my wife, Edwinna of now 37 years there. Jack & Lucy Thomas (no relation) were the wonderful on-site Directors. God is alive and well at this place. I highly recommend you visiting or even sending your child for a great summer experience. I miss it dearly.
