Liked: The camping owner was very friendly and stood open to give all the tips about things to do in the surrounding area. The camping itself was beautiful and very good. Our pitch was big enough for our tent and still had room for your table and chairs outside. The camping was quiet, which we really appreciate.

Disliked: The bathroom could have been cleaner at times as well as better refilled with toilet paper. WiFi did not work on our pitch.

Nice site with tidy pitches and with literally direct access (over the road) to the forest for walking/Cycling. This goes into the forest and the info centre/cafe.
Very dark and quiet at night with some road noise.
Great for Dogs as a nice small walk around the pond on site, shame that the resident static owners I watched didn’t “pick up” though, on two occasions.
VERY disappointed to find the bathrooms to be freezing cold, on Two separate days (so no quality control). Very poor for a frosty October and, nobody home to complain to.

Liked: We recently had the pleasure of staying at the Glentrool campsite, and it was an outstanding experience. The tent area was absolutely idyllic, situated near a serene pond that attracted a variety of wildlife. Waking up to the sounds of nature and the view of the pond was a true delight.

The facilities at Glentrool were top-notch. The toilets and showers were always impeccably clean, with an ample supply of warm water, making it a comfortable stay even in the wilderness. The ease of check-in was also impressive, utilising a ring doorbell system that made the process smooth and hassle-free.

The campsite provided everything needed for a convenient stay. There were sinks for dishwashing, a microwave, and a fridge, which were very handy. Additionally, they had a great selection of board games and books, perfect for a relaxing evening. The area also featured a washing machine and dryer, which was a lifesaver for longer stays.

Overall, Glentrool campsite offered a perfect blend of natural beauty and modern convenience, making it a highly recommended destination for camping enthusiasts.

Disliked: We were disappointed that we couldn't fully experience the dark sky due to our summer visit, but this wasn't the campsite's fault.

Small but very clean and well maintained campsite. Spent 2 nights with a campervan. Enough toilet and shower facilities. In the ladies bathroom there was a hair dryer (free of charge) which I think is amazing. Laundry facilities available as well. Friendly staff, perfect spot for Galloway Forest Park!

Liked: Large pitches and lovely grounds. It was lovely to wake up and watch the family of ducks wandering around next to the pond. We were lucky enough to see the night sky full of stars. It is walking distance to the visitor centre. The washing up and laundry facilities were excellent as recently been upgraded. The toilets and showers were of a good standard. We used the ring door bell to book in and find out pitch but we did see the owner walking around the site. There is no longer a pub in walking distance which is a shame. Wifi service did not work at all and we could not get a TV signal.

Disliked: Someone arrived at the site at 11:15 pm with full beam lights shining in our van for over 15 minutes which was very inconsiderate. Young campers arrived the second night and were partying until 4 am and allowing their dog to chase the ducks as it was not on a lead.

Liked: The site is in a beautiful spot, very clean and well-equipped. We were given a warm welcome and offered helpful info about the surrounding area. We had a choice of pitch and the options were good. Chose a sheltered spot in the corner close to electric hook-up and it worked out well. We were only away from our young kids for one night, but it felt like a proper break in this tranquil and picturesque place. Lovely short walk up the woodland path to the newly reopened Hoose pub. Site had clean toilets, warm showers, washing facilities for dishes and clothes, kettle, microwave, small fridge and freezer. Drove to Newton Stewart (about 20 mins in car) where there is a Coop, ice cream shop etc. Can't comment on the strength of the WiFi as I didn't use it, but the log-in details were clearly displayed. We did fine with mobile data reception!

Disliked: Like most, we're never fans of the midge population, but nothing can be done about that really! Site shop was well stocked with spray and coils etc so we coped ok!

Liked: Thank you for a lovely stay. The bathrooms and washing up facilities were clean and tidy. The cabin with books, games, a kettle, fridge and microwave was a bonus. Laundry facilities on site and a little reception shop was great. I was greeted with a warm welcome, the camping field was perfect and easily accessible. The surrounding forest walks are beautiful. I would definitely recommend to a friend!
