We have made several visits to Ca Solare over the last few years and are happy to report that it remains a great place to stay and is, if anything, constantly improving. A restored classic 19thC Piemontese farmhouse tucked in the gentle vine-covered hills to the west of Turin (and just an hour SE of Milan's Malpensa airport), it offers easy access to all of NW Italy and is a convenient stopping point while driving from northern to southern Europe. There are many great places to stay in this diverse, sophisticated, and intriguingly under-touristed area, but Ca Solare remains our hands-down favorite. We're particularly partial to our charming host and hostess - Dario and Kiki - who unerringly steer us to the best sights, events, and eateries - even introducing us to their friends and including us in various local social outings! They also whip up amazing breakfasts and tempt us continuously with an array of luscious snacks - all included in their surprisingly modest room rates. Their sumptuous dinners, replete with local specialties, are not to be missed, and are similarly well-priced. The rooms themselves are comfortable and spacious, with simple, homey furnishings. All in all, it's quite easy to settle in for a few relaxing days, and much, much harder to tear oneself away.|

Ca' Solare is a small B&B and restaurant located in the hills just south of the River Po, a half-hour drive east of Torino (Turin) and north of Asti. It is convenient for visiting Torino itself and the various hill towns and wineries in that area.||||Our visit was in 2009 October, during the truffle festivals and beautiful fall weather. We had a purchased a special Ca'Solare package that we won at a local charity event. The package was for 6 days/5 nights including a dinner, wine tours, private cooking class, basket of local wines & products, plus a day tour of Turin with our hosts. Cristina (Kiki) and Dario are wonderful hosts and we enjoyed everything they planned for us. It is possible to arrange with Kiki your own personal holiday package. I highly recommend that you try to do this as Kiki and Dario know the best spots for everything are a lot of fun!!||||Our rooms were spacious, the bathrooms clean and functional, there is tea & coffee in the room, and the beds are warm and firm. Plenty of hot water and lots of big comforters. The Continental breakfast includes a selection of locally produced cheese, jams and honeys, plus a few homemade delights from Kiki. ||||Ca'Solare is slowing being renovated with love and care by Kiki and Dario, so you will find a few cracks in the floor tile, slightly faded paint, interesting fabric covering openings used to keep out mosquitoes (which were absent when we visited), your door may not lock (not that it matters: it's very safe and there is a collection of very large, lovable, extraordinarily clean and friendly Newfoundland dogs between you and the exit), plus a few sweet cats - just like home, right?||||If you are a foodie you will love the dinners at La Locanda del Biru, the restaurant in the B&B. Kiki's kitchen is the one part of the establishment that is fancy, with enough professional stainless steel appliances to be the envy of many big city restaurants. Kiki serves a fixed, many-course (6-8!) menu of traditional Piemontese recipes which will keep you seated for 2-3 hours and leave you stuffed to the gills -- at an amazingly reasonable price. American chefs would call it a "tasting menu" and charge a huge premium for it. We ate there on four of our five nights and were never disappointed. The private cooking class was awesome....we cooked for 4+ hours. Kiki is amazing --- we made everything fresh-----then we had the pleasure of eating it all...every single delicious bite! Mangia bene, vivi felice!||||This special B&B isn't for everyone, but if you're OK with a casual, comfortable, and rustic environment then you're likely to fall in love with the place.||It is the proprietors, Cristina (Kiki) and Dario, who give the B&B its life and make the experience extraordinary. They greeted us with warm smiles and a genuine desire to please. During our short visit we became friends and are looking forward to when we can see them again.

As we travelled through Italy last summer, many people asked us why we were going to the Torino area (as it is much less travelled than other tourist spots in Italy). After we went there I just couldn't understand this reaction. This is a beautiful part of Italy. I have to say I enjoyed it at least as much (if not more) than some of the better known areas (overloaded with tourists as they were in the month of July).||When we (finally) found Ca Solare after a full day of driving, we did wonder for a few minutes what we had got ourselves into. Several construction workers were working on an addition to the casa (a future restaurant) and 2 huge newfoundland retrievers (each chewing on a parmesan rind) came to meet us in the driveway.||We had pre-arranged to have our hosts prepare us an Italian dinner. They had friends visiting while we were there, which added to the enjoyment of our trip (very friendly people). The dinner prepared by Christina was fabulous and the breakfast the next morning (prepared by Christina's husband, Dario) was the best we had on our 3-week trip). Wholegrain bread (milled from local grain) and homemade preserves were highlights.||Our room was like 2 rooms in one: a living area with pullout bed and an adjacent bedroom with 2 more beds. This was perfect for our family (4 of us).||The nicest surprise of all was the bill - $105 for accommodation, dinner, and breakfast for 4. To top it off, Dario sent us on our way with a nice bottle of local (barolo) wine.||I highly recommend Ca Solare. I would like to return to this part of Italy some day.|
