Great tent camping amenities (nice bathrooms with clean, new showers). Lots of trails to hike around within the park with expansive views of the bayside. Plenty of people fishing from shore and from kayaks. Lots of biking opportunities, too (mostly off road / mountain along grass/sand trails)

This place is amazing campsite with outside grill, fire pit, table and roof deck already on-site including indoor bathrooms and showers. The view is also out breath taking. You clearly and truly get to hear mother nature sounds.

A great place to stay. December is low on bugs, never saw any gators, the park is very safe and secured at night.

June 16 2021 visit. Nothing has changed from our visit last year. If you want to walk on the beach you have to drive or if you're open to dangerous activities cross the highway on bicycle. The Bayside is the only area open for camping. Good facilities for restroom and showers close by. Bring your own shade. Beautiful area with plenty of birds. Get the Texas state parks app and you can easily book ahead online.

Pretty nice camp site. Little roof over a picnic bench/table. Fair bit of space to pitch a tent. And the site is ver accessible; its very flat and little/no obstructions. Having said that, im more used to forest camping, this place is VERY open. Not an issue, but something i found striking. Would be a good place for star gazing.

Clean and comfortable, but no shade or trees. Wish it was within 1/2 mile to the Gulf side beach. Instead you need to drive over a mile and cross a 4-lane highway, because walking down a hot asphalt road and crossing a busy 4-lane highway would not be wise.

Didn't think I was going to like it because there were no trees. Turned out to be a great camping place. The camping areas are large they provide you with table and everything else you need as far as your Lantern hook up some water and electricity. You can pop up three or four tents on one campsite. And the one thing that made it exceptional was the fact that it had grass everywhere. If you're going to stay here you definitely require mosquito repellent at night. The Beachside is closed for remodeling but the Bayside is open, they will finish the remodeling in approximately one and a half years.

Worst state park experience. Arrived at 11:30pm. Looked to call ahead and let them them know we’d be late, no return phone call, no gate code, pulled in to a locked gate at the end of 14 hour drive. Had to scramble to book a hotel. If the park culture actually cared they’d have left an after hours number to call. Everything is bigger in Texas include the pain in the a** park staff.
